Czech Wrecks :
Mintex were proud to sponsor a team competing in Czech Wrecks, the Street Safari, but were even prouder when they found out that they helped to raise over £2,250 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity.
Czech Wrecks is a road challenge across Europe. The journey began in Calais on 29th August and finished in Prague on 1st September 2008. Each team entered must have used a vehicle which cost less than £100, be an M plate or older, and must be legal and road safe.
Pist 'n Rust-eee, pictured, which is based on “Lightning McQueen” from the Pixar film “Cars”, travelled the long way back to the UK from Prague – 15 hours in total, and the number of miles driven over the 4-day long adventure totalled 2258! The journey consisted of roads between beautiful lakes and mountains, terrain where brakes and clutches were of paramount importance and areas of land, particularly over the Stelvio Pass, where cars were pushed to the limits – 10/10 on the difficulty scale.
Team member Nigel Metcalfe said “the week was fantastic with some great views along the way. We had a few problems with the car, the clutch started to judder and one of the brake calipers caused the pads to always be on the disk meaning that the brakes were always applied on that wheel. This goes to show how good the Mintex pads are, as we always managed to stop and there was no brake fade from some very overworked brakes! The quality of them probably saved our lives a few times!”
